Personal information and social status
Name: Harlequin (Real name Unknown)
Race: Originally an elf, soul is currently bound to a mana stone.
Age: 2000+
Gender: Male
Appearance: Variable, preferred body looks like this: link
Personality: Grandiose, well spoken and with a mastery of theatrics, the assassin known as Harlequin is a terrifying individual to be on the wrong side of. His methods are as varied as they are lethal, from poisons to blades, garrotes to fire and even gunpowder; the many ways that this strange man has wrote death has made him into a figure to be feared and respected in equal measure in the seedier parts of Terra Mystica.
He has earned his reputation through his firm grasp of theatrics, wearing a simple jester's garb and acting the part of an innocent performer, Harlequin is often ignored as an innocuous merry man...right up until his victims are locked alone with him, where his performance art turns into something far more petrifying. This love of the dramatic stems from Harlequin considering his killing to be an art form, a show of his millenia of skill honed to a razor's edge, he is proud of his craft and will not hesitate to talk down to other "lesser" killers as a result.
This high level of respect for his craft also makes him quite "choosy" about his targets, he will not kill children or women, unless the woman in question is a killer herself. He will also not kill someone if they are not "deserving" of it, such as if they are a mere rival who has not wronged his client in some way that is more than simply business related. This reputation for discerning taste in targets and his skill makes him quite sought after as a result, and this has made him and his partner very, very wealthy.
But beneath the artsy, eccentric killer for higher is the remnants of a man who lost his homeland, someone who lived through two traumatic wars and even lost his life, only to be trapped in a body that does not age, does not really feel anything. As a result, his "humanity" has been worn away, making it difficult for him to empathize with other living beings at all. The only person who seems to make him feel "alive" is his partner/lover, Ellie, who manages to awaken some of his long buried emotions and empathy.
Overall, Harlequin is a damaged individual, a living example of what the Cuorum and the fall of the kingdoms had done to many of those that lived through the chaos and death that ravaged those lands so long ago. The only difference, in his opinion, is that those eventually were lucky enough to die...him, well, he wasn't so lucky.
Home Realm: Terra Mystica - Twilight Kingdom
Affiliation: None
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (Emphasis on "Chaotic)
History: The Man named Harlequin was not always an assassin, he was in fact a battle mage who fought for the Twilight Kingdom Millennia ago, back when he was "alive", when he went by the name of Solis. His rank in the army was unique, he was not a mere foot soldier, but a specialist who functioned as both a scout and spy, with an occasional moonlighting as an assassin, when the need arose. He served in the army for close to a decade, and he was among the hundreds of thousands embroiled in the clash with the Castus Cuorum when they waged war on the magical world.
He survived that conflict, as well as the transporting of the Continent to an alternate dimension, still serving with his Kingdom...until everything began to fall apart. Infighting among the kingdoms, distrust and paranoia, and an assault by Bandits led to his home's ruin...as well as what would have been his death. He was grievously wounded in battle, his life hanging by a thread and slipping away rapidly, when he was found by a high court mage of the Twilight Kingdom's royal family. The mage was renowned for his experiments with mana, and how it was linked to a person's consciousness and being, and now that research was being put to use.
The Mage used a Mana Crystal and his magic to transfer Harlequin's mana, what was essentially his soul and consciousness, into the stone. The stone was transferred into an emergency body, a crude mixture of Earth Kingdom Battle Puppets and Twilight Kingdom Soul Golems.
The next few years of the Kingdom's fall were...chaotic, filled with death and anarchy, and in the end, nothing could be done. What few survivors that were left scattered far and wide, and Solis was left wandering, plying his skills in combat and killing as a mercenary and assassin to keep his ancient body maintained.
It was this new path that led him to taking the moniker "Harlequin", due to him taking on the appearance of a brightly clad performer to disguise himself during his kills. It was also during this time that he met a young girl in the midst of one of his kills, a girl named Ellie. The young thing had been standing in the middle of a bloodbath, scores of nobles who had been planning on betraying the Fire Kingdom in the wake of Aldari's parent's being assassinated. The girl simply smiled at him, even taunting him when he approached, but did not silence her. The woman's cheek amused the hired killer, and upon hearing how horribly she'd been treated, he offered her a place as his protege and partner.
Over the course of his time with Ellie, Harlequin began to feel more like his old self, emotions that had long since ebbed away returning more and more as he taught the young elf how to defend herself. She was taught how to make poisons and antidotes, lessons that she excelled in even beyond Harlequin's expectations, and in time she took the mantle of the Hellequin. As a pair, the duo of killers became more dangerous and renown than Harlequin had managed to be on his own, and it was at Ellie's suggestion that he came upon a new idea, one brought to life upon finding an old tome regarding Twilight kingdom Golem masters. He constructed new bodies, controlled with magic and capable of acting as "backup" bodies for Harlequin to inhabit should his main form become damaged or destroyed.
These new bodies, while crude compared to the masterworks of the Earth Kingdom or Twilight Kingdom, were deadly nonetheless. Harlequin clad them in their own outfits and colors, and they became known simply as "The Troupe", a group of elite performers who would act as distractions while Harlequin or Hellequin slew their targets. The Troupe is currently performing in the Fire Capital, bringing joy and mirth in the wake of the attack on the palace...while Harlequin attends to dealings with one scorned noblewoman, and in the midst of becoming embroiled in the dealings of Royalty...
Combat potential
Weapons: Retractable blades: Harlequin's default body has a pair of hidden blades that retract into his palms. These blades are approximately 5 inches long at full extension, and are double bladed with hardened tips to pierce plate mail. They are ineffective for slashing, but can be used as thrusting daggers in a pinch if other weapons aren't available.
Garrote: Harlequin's default body contains a spool of fine mythril wire in each of it's thumbs, with the Left thumb being a dull wire meant for strangulation, and the Right thumb containing a razor wire made to rend flesh and cripple limbs. These wires are incredibly strong, able to support a fully grown man by his neck like a noose without snapping, but make for poor offensive weapons in a fight. The wires are useless against anything more than cloth armor, requiring that Harlequin target weak joints or the throat if he were to use them in a full on battle.
Rondel Dagger: A simple, run of the mill Rondel dagger, with a wooden grip and a stiff 14 inch blade that tapers to a needle point. The edges of the knife are sharp, allowing it to be used as a slashing weapon or a cutting tool. It's main function is to pierce armor however and is easily able to breach cloth, leather and chain-mail with little difficulty. Plate armor is more difficult, as it is incapable of piercing a breastplate, but the thinner material of a helm or the joints of a suit provide only marginal resistance, making it a good tool for killing armored guards if razBoor wire is not an option. This weapon is strapped to the left thigh of both Harlequin's default body as well as his Kingslayer body, kept safe in it's sheath until needed.
Thunderhead Bombs: A tool used for last minute escapes or as an act of stunning his opponents, the Thunderhead bomb is a home made invention of Harlequin's. It appears as a simple clay ball, painted in a garish checkerboard pattern with a clownish smile on one face, but within the ball is a mixture of black powder, red sulfur, and other volatile minerals. When thrown at the ground, the casing of the bomb shatters, and the mixture detonates, creating a deafening explosion and a blinding flash of light. This flash is followed by a thick, acrid black smoke that can fill a 40x40 foot room, or an alleyway, masking Harlequin's escape. The Red Sulfur also interferes with nonhuman senses, masking his scent and making the infrared vision of reptilian beings go haywire due to the heat released by the burning mineral.
The bombs are cumbersome however, and Harlequin can only carry three of them, keeping them tightly contained within the chest of his default body to avoid accidental detonations.
Poison Needles: Tools used exclusively by the Yellowjacket body, the Yellowjacket is capable of propelling sharp metallic needles from it's mouth called "stingers" these needles are barbed and dipped in a virulent hallucinogenic toxin distilled and prepared by Hellequin. The poison saps away the victims health over time, and impairs their vision and movement, making them sluggish and inaccurate. The needles are light, and not very effective against metal plate armor, but their pointed tips are capable of breaching cloth, leather and chain-mail from a distance of 100, 70, and 50 feet respectively. Harlequin carries approximately 50 needles loaded for firing in his Yellowjacket body at all times.
Poison Fog: A "crowd control" tool used to blind and kill a large number of pursuers or targets, the poison fog is a particularly insidious tool, hidden inside of the mouth of the Yellowjacket body's mouth. When triggered, Harlequin produces a thick, highly toxic cloud from his mouth.
Upon contact with the eyes, the poison causes the sufferer's vision to blur and their eyes to water, the virulent agent eventually causing blindness if the eyes are not rinsed with water to clear them. Inhalation of the toxin causes far more symptoms to manifest rapidly, the poison reacts to the mucus membranes of the lungs and throat, causing alveoli to rupture and the lungs to fill with fluid. Being stuck inside of this cloud causes a rather severe amount of damage to the victims per post, and their ability to hit a target is cut in half due to the debilitating effects on their vision. The poison cloud's effects linger for a period of 3 turns after exiting the cloud, but the damage effect can be negated with a healing spell immediately, while the vision blurring effect can be negated with a spell or water being used to flush out the victim's eyes.
Harlequin can only use this technique 5 times per thread before his supply of poison components is depleted, rendering this ability inoperable.
Snakebite: A pair of retractable needles mounted in the Yellowjacket body's forearms, the snakebite is Harlequin's most dangerous tool in this body. Each needle is approximately a foot long and constructed to punch clean through plate mail, allowing him to deliver a lethal payload of poison to the victim through a vital point on their bodies. The poison is a neurotoxin, and rapidly begins to shut down the sufferer's motor functions and breathing. Within 90 seconds of injection, the poison begins to attack the muscles, causing painful, debilitating spasms that render the target incapable of moving or speaking. Within 5 minutes of infection, if untreated, the victim's vital functions begin to fail. Their breathing stops, and the heart slowly, laboriously, stops beating at 10 minutes post dosage.
The poison is pre-loaded into the snakebite by a set glass vials, and must be replaced after every usage. Harlequin carries 30 of the small vials in a reinforced compartment within his biceps, each one containing 15 extra vials, on top of the 2 already loaded and ready for use within the needles themselves. If used in combat, the poison hampers the enemy's movement, rendering them greatly impaired in terms movement and attack by their first post after being dosed.
The poison can be counteracted with an antidote or a healing spell, if the poison is not treated within 6 posts (That is six of the victim's posts) after dosage, the victim will die. Any non combat usage of this weapon is for PLOT USE ONLY and will be discussed with by the users in question and one other Moderator to ensure that everyone finds the usage of this tool acceptable.
Halberd: A Halberd contained within Harlequin's strongman body, it is a standard polearm, 6 feet long and capped with a small axe head topped by a long, 8 inch stabbing point. It is good for keeping strong foes at bay, and it's stabbing point is good at piercing through heavy and light armor. The head of the halberd is made of steel, with a shaft of oak for strength.
Sabers: Another weapon hidden within the strongman body, Harlequin's saber is a steel cutlass, approximately 2.5 feet long and with a single edge for slashing. The blade has a simple basket hilt to protect harlequin's fingers from being damaged in battle. Harlequin has two identical blades in his body, allowing him to dual wield the weapons when surrounded.
Maul: A one handed war hammer, designed to crush an enemy's bones or armor, the Maul is another weapon held inside of Harlequin's Strongman armor. It consists of a heavy Iron head, with a solid oaken shaft about 3 feet long. The heavy, crushing hammer allows Harlequin to smash plate armor or chain mail or shatter bones like glass, making the maul an excellent short range weapon against armored foes.
Armor:
Enchanted weapons/accessories: Base Body: This is Harlequin's default body, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and is rather lanky in appearance. It is lightly built, sacrificing defense for flexibility and speed, allowing Harlequin to flex and move his body in ways a normal human can't. This body does not have any extra damage resistance due to it's lack of armor, making it less suitable for a fight against more than one opponent.
YellowJacket Body: A body built to deliver poison, the so called "YellowJacket" body is constructed with compartments to conceal poisoned weapons as well as a device that allows Harlequin to "breath" poisoned fog to kills his targets with. This body is unarmored, being a "alternative" type of designed to kill opponents who are more resistant to conventional methods of killing via blades or strangulation.
Strong Man Body: This is Harlequin's combat body, clad in a garish costume and containing a compartment that allows him to store a large amount of weapons within (Similar to a Bag of Holding In D&D), the Strong Man puppet is surprisingly formidable battle. The body is less flexible or speedy than Harlequin's other forms, but is far more durable, cutting any damage dealt by a quarter.
Weaknesses: Vulnerable to Magic: Harlequin's body, while quite durable against weapons due to it's artificial nature, is still vulnerable to magic, even more so than living beings due to his magical existence. If Harlequin is truck by a magical attack, it deals damage equal to a spell one magnitude higher than it's default power level.
Crude Build: Harlequin's bodies are not expert creations. Even his base body, which was professionally made by a Golem Smith, was rushed and is an experimental fusion of Earth and Twilight Kingdom craft. Compared to a true puppet, or one based on an earth kingdom design, His bodies are harder to manipulate en masse, slower, but not durable enough compared to a golem to make the trade off even. If Harlequin is forced into a fight with a skilled puppeteer, or an actual Twilight Golem, he would be outclassed quite soundly in terms of sheer physical ability.
Mana Crystal: Harlequin's soul is contained in a fist sized Mana crystal due to his fatal injuries in the fall of the Twilight Kingdom, if this crystal is destroyed, Harlequin's soul will be released and claimed by Death.
Magical potential
Special/Racial Abilities: Resist Physical: Harlequin's inorganic bodies are crafted out of a mixture of magically reinforced wood, metal and stone, making him incredibly resistant to physical damage caused by thinks like swords, maces or arrows. Any damage of a physical nature (Non-enchanted Melee or Ranged attacks) is cut by 2/3. Fire of a non magical nature is not weakened nor enhanced like Magical Fire is.
Immune to Debuff: Harlequin's artificial body and stone bound nature render him immune to spells that impair his abilities via direct physical debilitation (Causing blindness, impairing breathing, causing pain. Creating physical restraints like vines, cuffs or sinking his legs into the ground remain effective. Indirect methods of concealment such as blotting out light or becoming invisible still work.).
Magical Affinity: Light/Dark (In life, home made puppet bodies are incapable of casting spells.)
Spells Known (_/35sP): None, due to Harlequin being artificial, he is incapable of casting spells.
