Personal information and social status
Name: Lance Devereaux
Race: Half-Elf (Appears human due to alteration of his ears shortly after birth)
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance: Lance is a young man with a slender build, topping out at five feet six inches tall. Lance has blonde hair measuring out at roughly four inches long, usually kept spiked up so it stays out of his eyes. Lance has a fair skin-tone and green eyes, which have a distinctive "spark" in them, particularly when he's in the mood to mess with someone. Lance's face is somewhat angular in appearance, with a well defined chin and cheekbones. As far as distinguishing marks go, Lance possesses a small scar over his left eyelid, approximately half an inch long.
Personality: As Lance has traveled throughout Terra Mystica, his personality has begun to change. While he is still a joker and in possession of a strong independent streak, he's also become more jaded and cynical, his snarky and insulting remarks possessing more bite to them than before. His dislike of authority has also grown a great deal, fed by the deteriorating events around him surrounding the Fire Kingdom's internal strife, as long as a sense of being jerked about like a puppet by those who are far older and more powerful than him.
A great deal of this is due to his previously hidden PTSD, which had begun to resurface with varying intensity due to the stress of his situation combined with the life threatening events in the Twilight Kingdom, this culminated in a near mental and emotional breakdown born from a feeling of helplessness and an inability to properly protect the people he cared for, let alone himself. the breakdown could have resulted in his death had he not been tended to right at that very moment.
Still, while things have been incredibly trying for him, these events have created a positive effect on Lance, driving him to take up the mantle of Wind King where he once hesitated to do so. Now, instead of feeling lost in the world, he strives to rebuild the Wind Kingdom as HE sees fit, unburdened by it's past or what others would say it should be. He has also reaffirmed his desire to protect those who are less powerful than he is, determined to never fail in protecting those under his care ever again.
However, Lance is still hiding some of his true feelings, his drive to protect others and make a place to call his own are also bolstered by a growing feelings affection towards one of his traveling companions, Nyx...as well as a feeling of conflict regarding his rather complex feelings towards his long time friend and wing-mate Alicia. Lance feels torn between the two, not wanting to hurt either of them even as he grapples with exactly WHAT it is he feels, unsure as to whether it is simply a platonic sense of affection or something more that's blooming within him.

History: Lance Devereaux was born in Southern California to Mary and Lambert Devereaux. Lance's parents married young, and when he was born his mother was only 20 years old. Life was hard for Lance at first, his parents had to juggle taking care of him with work, and, in his father's case, Medical School. Lambert Devereaux had managed to obtain a scholarship to UC Davis Medical school in Sacramento, leaving Lance's mother Mary to take care of him for the majority of the time. This created tension at times, but in the end it was worth it when Lambert Devereaux obtained a Masters Degree in Genetics.
As Lance grew, his family became more and more wealthy, Lambert had discovered a variety of new methods for gene recombination, leading to various new types of medications and vaccines. Despite the family's new found wealth, Lance's parents were still very worldly, and Lance was enrolled in public schooling instead of private academies.
Lance quickly proved to be equal parts star pupil and class clown, grasping new topics rather quickly, but not acting as if his studies were important. He still turned in homework and did the assignments, but his behavior led to many detentions and parent-teacher conferences over the years.
Lance eventually graduated from High-School with above average marks, and decided to enroll in the Air Force, saying that he had "Always wanted to see what it was like to shoot through the air at Mach 2." Lance's experiences in Basic were far more trying than in his school-days, with his antics nearly getting him a dishonorable discharge on one occasion. But, eventually, Lance learned to control his more immature behavior (and to cover his tracks really well when he did act up.) and graduated from basic training.
Lance has since been the pilot of an F-16 "Fighting Falcon", and has flown two tours overseas. Lance is currently slated to test the latest in the USAF's fighter program, the F-35 Lightning II, over the Bermuda Triangle in a war-games exercise to test the plane's maneuverability.
During the war-games exercise Lance and his craft were pulled through a rift in the sky, transporting him to Terra Mystica and forcing him to crash land in the fields outside of Wheat Town. He met Arin Delas and Lunaris "Luna" Mor'Runya shortly after that, eventually getting wrapped up in not only their journey, but the deposing of Wheat Town's incompetent and corrupt Mayor, as well as an attack on the Fire Palace of King Aldari by what seemed to be an Ice Kingdom spy.
In between these two events, yet another bombshell was laid in Lance's lap, his parents revealed the truth of his heritage to him, that he was not a human, but a Half-Elf. Not only that, his parents were royals of the fallen Wind Kingdom, and were actually hundreds of years old. The revelation of this long held secret was paired with a new wrinkle in things for the young Airman, he was the rightful heir to an entire country, and he could be it's last chance to be revived into a powerful nation again.
Things did not slow down for Lance after that, unfortunately. As he joined Arin and Luna, as well as a band of mercenaries and a man named Akatosh, a so called "Dragon-Born" who had joined them on the way to the Fire Capital. The motley band traveled by ship to the Twilight Kingdom, another ruined nation that potentially was where Arin's family originally hailed from.
The search for answers was not a smooth one, Arin was forced to Separate from the group to seek an ancient relic of the Twilight Kingdom's royal lineage (a task given to him by the physical embodiment of DEATH no less.), while the others explored the ruins looking for old tomes that might be of value, a swarm of shadowy beasts attacked them, followed by a powerful wraith that was only done in by quick thinking and a satchel of homemade flash grenades courtesy of Lance and Luna. The battle left everyone battered and exhausted, with Lance taking the worst of it, suffering from a crushed set of ribs, maimed legs and a deep gash in his abdomen that threatened to open if he moved the wrong way.
The journey was not a total loss, Arin retrieved his Relic, as well as answers as to where he came from, and the party received a new member, an Arachne named Nyx who had saved Lance's life during the battle with the shadow beasts.
However, the battles, stress and a growing sense of resentment that had been festering within Lance over the course of his travels finally reared their heads. As the group reached the Fire Capital's port, tensions long thought buried were dug up once more, culminating in Lance devolving into a full blown PTSD episode as well as him shattering Luna's nose before storming off. It was only due to the intervention of Umbra, a powerful Majin and the teacher of Arin's mother, Aria, that Lance was able to finally let his demons out and recover.
He was whisked away to a bar owned by a mysterious man named Mephisto, as well as a short immigrant from the human world named Giovanni, where he laid bare the source of his inner turmoil to them as well as Umbra. He had failed to save a group of Army Rangers during his second tour of duty in the Middle East while providing air support, a failure that had haunted him so much that he had actually had to be pulled from combat and placed in the flight testing division that had led to his ending up in the Lost Nation to begin with.
After he told his tale, he accepted help offered to him by the three, receiving training from Umbra as well as an impressively enhanced suit of armor from Mephisto. He has since rejoined Arin and Luna, swearing to follow his own path and rebuild his ancestor's kingdom in his own image, though only time will tell if he will succeed or fail in that quest.
Combat potential
Weapons: Survival Knife: Lance is equipped with a standard issue USAF survival knife, to be used in the event of a pilot bailout, it can be used as a tool as well as a weapon. The knife is approximately 10 inches long, with a 7 inch blade, and deals a low amount of damage per strike. The knife is strapped to Lance's side at all times, protected from the elements by a treated leather sheath.
Armor: Traveler's Outfit: A light but durable outfit made by Florentine Ren, this is Lance's traveling gear when not wearing his armor. The material is a special blend of fibers used in all of Florentine's clothing, balancing breathability, comfort and strength to avoid tears or rends in the material. It provides little to no defense against weapons or spells, but its light weight makes it quite comfortable in the warmer climate of the Fire Kingdom.
Enchanted weapons/accessories: Wind King's Armor: Lance's original light armor from Wheat Town, now enhanced and altered greatly by Mephisto, this armor is hewn from a combination of enchanted metals and the carbon-weave/aluminum alloy that Lance's F-35 "Lightning II" fighter jet was made out of when it crashed. The two different materials are bound together due to a special alchemy process used during forging the meal, which is also what changed it to it's brilliant gold and and light green hue.
The armor itself is empowered with multiple enchantments, including one that allows it to be "Dispelled", bursting into motes of light that are stored within the right gauntlet of the armor until the wearer calls upon it again, where it will form around them in the span of only a few seconds. The armor is also reinforced with an enchantment that, over time, repairs any damage done to it, eliminating the need for constant repairs by an armor smith.
Other enchantments include a spell that cuts the armor's weight from almost 40 pounds down to only 20, runes that allow the user to cast spells using only half of the normal mana required. Finally, it possesses a translation rune that allows the user to understand Elvish, Orcish, Terran, any of the "Common" languages ( Major Earth Languages such as Chinese, French, etc.) and most astoundingly, Dovahzul, or Dragon's speech. The armor is not infallible however, it's does not grant immunity to poisons, spells or damage types, instead boosting the wearer's skills instead.
Royal Saber: A dwarven forged blade made for Lance when he first landed in wheat town, and then improved further by Mephisto upon meeting him, This is Lance's primary weapon since coming to Terra Mystica. The blade is approximately 40 inches long with a 10 inch long handle, which allows Lance to wield the weapon with either one or two hands, depending on how much force he wishes to use. The blade itself is magically strengthened to resist snapping under strain, as well as being enchanted to be immune to Rust and dulling. Mephisto also added another enchantment, one that cuts the swords weight down to about 5 pounds as opposed to it's original 10, allowing for easier handling at the cost of a bit of cutting power and raw force to Lance's strikes.
Talon Daggers: A pair of Daggers made for Lance along with his sword, the blades on each of them are 12 inches long and razor sharp, while also being able to punch through plate and chain mail due to their thicker blades. The blades themselves are enchanted to resist rust and wear, much like the Royal Saber, but do not possess the lightening enchantment that it does, due to each one only weighing about 2-3 pounds already.
Weaknesses: Irritating Personality: Lance's personality can grate other individuals, especially those who are authority figures and expect him to do as they ask without question.
Short Temper: While Lance is no longer new to the world of Terra Mystica, his experiences and resurgance in his PTSD have made him quicker to anger than before. These bouts can be as small as a spiteful comment or visible annoyance, or even extend to acting more recklessly in the heat of the moment, which could put his life in danger if the situation is dangerous enough.
Magical potential
Special/Racial Abilities:
Parkour: Lance has trained in Parkour since the age of 16, and is incredibly proficient at it, this makes him very good at outrunning a heavily armored opponent, especially in an cites, ruins, or forests, where there are many opportunities for him to take advantage of these skills.
Quick Learner: Lance possesses a keen ability to adapt and learn from either observation or practice, this makes it much easier for him to learn things like how to use a sword or stave effectively, or how to read a language if he has someone to translate the first couple of times.
Magical Affinity: Wind
Spells Known (21/55sP):
Wind Walker(3p): Lance is capable of channeling his wind mana through his body, increasing the agility enhancement that his affinity already gives him to even greater heights. This spell increases Lance's movement speed by three times, allowing him to attack and maneuver far faster than a normal human. This spell also has an unintended side effect, due to the increased kinetic energy, Lance's melee attacks also deal more damage, however, he can only sustain this boost for 3 posts, and needs to wait for a period of 2 posts once it wears off before he can re-cast the spell.
Microburst(3p): A basic wind spell, Microburst is a directed burst of wind that Lance can create using a flare of his mana. The bursts can be projected from his hands or feet, and can range in power from a gentle breeze used to dexterously guide a handkerchief to it's owner to a blast of wind strong enough to stagger armored foes or send unarmored opponents flying back a good 10 feet. When paired with Wind Walker, this spell can further enhance Lance's mobility, allowing him to leap higher and farther, or to slow his decent when leaping from high places.
The gusts can range in size to the thickness of a piece of rope, to a maximum width of 5 feet wide, and have a maximum effective range of 10 feet if used to move something. (The spell is a cylindrical shape, staying consistent in width at any distance.)
The spell itself doesn't cause any direct damage to it's target, and Lance can only use this spell once every 2 posts.
Jet Pistol(3p): An offensive technique that uses Lance's ability to super compress air using his magic as a weapon. Lance uses his mana to create a super condensed ball of air at the tip of his fingers, creating a "bullet" of barely visible wind that he can then fire at a target. The "bullet" explodes when it strikes it's target, generating enough force to gouge a golf ball sized gouge in a target's flesh if they aren't wearing any protection. The wound bleeds profusely, and strikes to the neck, chest or head are capable of killing an opponent by the sheer amount of trauma it causes. Armor is capable of lessening the damage dealt by the blast, with plate armor only being heavily dented by the shot.
This spell has a maximum effective range of 10 meters, and Lance can fire 8 "rounds" per spell (One for each finger, not counting thumbs) Every other post.
Gust Cannon(5p): The Jet Pistol, Writ Large, The Gust Cannon spell is Lance's method of dealing with larger foes or those wearing armor. The spell's function is identical to the Jet Pistol, utilizing a super compressed sphere of wind mana that strikes a target with vicious force before detonating. The difference is that instead of being channeled through a single finger, the Gust Cannon uses Lance's whole fist as the point of formation.
The resulting projectile is the size of a large apple, and explodes on contact with enough force to shatter stone, tear apart chain mail, cave in plate armor...and blast a gaping hole the size of a dinner plate in an opponent's torso. Humanoid sized targets are either killed instantly or are grievously wounded, depending on the location they're hit and how thick their armor is. Larger or tougher opponents are not guaranteed to die, but will have deep, profusely bleeding wounds due to having chunks of their flesh essentially blasted out of them.
Lance can only fire one of these blasts per casting, and he can only cast the spell once every 4 posts, due to the larger amount of effort required to form the projectile.
Holy Sandstorm(7p): Lance's most powerful spell, The Holy Sandstorm spell is a pair of F4 class tornadoes fired from Lance's arms as an attack. The tornadoes rotate in opposite directions, their opposing wind currents essentially pulling anyone caught in the blast apart like a chunk of modeling clay due to the sheer torque that they produce. The wind also rips up stones, bricks, sticks and soil, hurling these particles like buckshot at speeds upwards of 200 miles per hour, shredding and battering anything that isn't torn asunder by the wind currents themselves.
A spell of this intensity requires a full post to prepare however, while it's preparation is obvious enough to act as a warning to any targets in range.
Lance throws his arms back behind him, his arms glowing with swirling currents of wind mana as he begins to channel his magic. The currents shroud his limbs and spin faster and faster, eventually appearing to replace his arms with miniature cyclones of glowing wind magic. Lance then throws his hands forward upon finishing the spell, firing it in front of him and striking anything caught in the spells path.
The spell's raw power is devastating, with a range of over 50 meters and a conical radius that starts as a narrow width of 5 feet, but maxing out at five times that. The spell has two major drawbacks, the first is that it's windup is slower than a simple Air Blast or Gust Cannon shot, giving someone time to at least try to avoid the attack. The second is that it's incredibly taxing on Lance, even with his improved mana control and armor. This spell can only be used after a one turn "charge" period, and can only be used a maximum of 4 times per thread, with a 6 turn cooldown in between castings.
