((Very long read, but required for understanding the lore of the forum.))
Long ago, before any form of documented history. there was a time when humans were able to live among the beasts of legend in complete harmony, never having a quarrel between them. At no point during this time has there ever been a dispute between any of the many races. However, this soon ended when a supremacist revealed himself to the public, trying to spread fear in the hearts of humans towards the mythical beings.
His efforts did not end in failure, taking away the once somewhat peaceful understanding the humans, elves, and other creatures had between them. Over time, more and more humans joined this man, forming a small yet growing cult that was known to all as the "Castus Cruorem", bent on ridding the world of all the mythical beings, leaving humans to be the highest intelligent species on earth. Eventually, the cult resorted to hunting them like animals.
Desperate to preserve their race, all of the mythical beasts migrated to a large island that once inhabited the bermuda triangle, safe and hidden from the supremacist cult with the humans that helped them to their new home. For a while they had lived peacefully, more human sympathizers towards the mythical beings coming from overseas to join them.
Unfortunately, the new arrivals accidentally clued the Castus Cruorem in on their location, and soon a massive collection of large war ships came sailing toward them, firing their cannons toward the port towns.
Realizing that they were in danger, the strongest of all of their races; dragons, griffins, even the mighty leviathans of the sea charged forth to defend their new homeland and its people. Despite having mighty creatures banding together, the Cruorem were too much for them to defeat, using the same magic that the beasts used against them in their arsenal of weapons to deflect their assault, and continue to target the those defenseless on the island.
During this battle, the mages all gathered together to try and find a way to find salvation from this world. They tried all manners of protection spells, but they were ineffective with the ships so close to the land. However, one witch in particular spoke a random arrangement of incantations, hoping something would happen, and a large barrier began to expand around the land, covering it entirely. This witch had discovered a gateway to a dimensional pocket that the ancient Atlantians had created during the devastating flood that buried their civilization.
The barrier shut out a majority of the cult ships, leaving the rest to be brought sinking to the bottom of the ocean by those creatures that were still inside of the barrier. But the barrier protecting their land had also shut out those that had been protecting it, trapped in the world ruled by prejudice and hate. The mythical beings knew that they would be killed if they didn't escape and had no choice but to retreat. They all scattered among the seven continents of the world, hiding in secret-both in and out of the public. Soon, the memories of that day and all days before it had begun to diminish as the generations went by, slowly turning into mere fairy tales and legends.
For a few years The witch that had discovered the gateway worked on inventing a spell to go back and forth between the two worlds. She finally succeeded after many attempts, transporting to the human world along with some other of the most trusted mages, to search for the lost mythical beings. They followed any and all leads from the different nations to find any that could be saved, leading them to the bermuda triangle when found to send them home through the original gateway.
Back on the continent, now named "The Lost Nation", or "Terra Mythica", the inhabitants scattered throughout the land, finding homes for themselves and building upon them to harbor growing colonies. The colonies thrived, growing ever larger as time went by, and five regions of the land had become large enough to be called kingdoms. Each kingdom had taken a share of the knowledge of magic with them when they scattered. The kingdoms soon became named after their chosen magical elements; Fire, Ice, Earth, Air, and Twilight.
The kingdoms have lived peacefully among each other, mostly keeping to themselves and exchanging supplies and good when convenient. But peace can only last for so long. With all kingdoms, conflicts arose among some few, generally opposing elemental kingdoms, and a civil war ensued between the earth and wind kingdoms. The strongest of their kingdoms fought on the front lines, leaving the kingdoms exposed, and this led to mass destruction of the kingdoms themselves. The once windy plains of the wind kingdom, now were scattered and turned to rubble on mountainous terrain, leaving only the kingdom's castle standing, as it hovered above the kingdom below with its great mana stone. The earth kingdom was no better off. Once, a high-rising kingdom, sitting proud on mountainous hillsides, now leveled by the sheer force of the wind kingdom's power, and turned into a desert wasteland. The only remaining evidence of the two great kingdoms, were the wind kingdom's castle and crumbling buildings, and the earth kingdom's coliseum and half-standing castle, the rest of the kingdom buried by dirt and desert over many centuries.
The Twilight kingdom, a kingdom focused on bringing balance to the entire nation, knowing the stakes of having too much bloodshed reducing the numbers of their kind, went to aide the two quarreling kingdoms during their civil war, to try and bring peace to their once peaceful realm. It took time, and many of the twilight kingdom's warriors were caught in the crossfire of the war, but peace eventually did return to the land once again. But it was far little too late.
Unknown to the new inhabitants, the land was home to a bandit colony, some thousands strong, and spread out in the woodlands and cave systems that kept their community hidden. Taking advantage of the fallout of war, the bandit colony took the chance to raid the recovering kingdoms while they were at their weakest, stealing treasures, weapons and women, and wiping out as many as they could find. By the time word had gotten to the twilight kingdom of the wind and earth kingdom's eradication, it was already too late, the bandit hoard had all converged on the lonely island of the Twilight kingdom, and in one fell swoop, had stripped the once proud kingdom of everything it had, leaving the lands barely touched, but in great disrepair. Only a few of the kingdom's inhabitants managed to escape, fleeing to the kingdoms of fire and ice to warn the two kingdoms of the coming threat.
It was only by some sheer miracle that the two standing kingdoms came together to fend off this massive hoard, stopping them at their raid attempt of the fire kingdom, and greatly reducing the numbers of the hoard to the point that only minor factions reside across the nation to this day, taking residence in uninhabited towns and villages and plundering for food and gold when it conveniences their growing numbers. For now, they are no longer a perceived threat.
Despite the fire and ice kingdom's victories, the damage had already been done, the kingdoms of earth, wind, and twilight had been turned from lively kingdoms to nothing but ruins, the remaining survivors of their homeland scattering like the wind to live in more thriving environments. There have even been rumors that some descendants of the royal bloodlines from these fallen kingdoms have survived, but no one has found solid proof of this.
Centuries passed and the fallen kingdoms have become nothing but text in the history books. However, some seek to change this by searching for descendants of those kingdoms, and restore them to their former glory. Unfortunately, there has recently been some friction between the kingdoms of fire and ice, and are on the verge of war. Before anything can be done about the fallen kingdoms, the two quarreling kingdoms must be at peace once more, lest the final foundations of the five great monarchies crumble to dust.
