Werewolves
Only revealed fully during the night of the full moon, werewolves are the victims of an attack from a special kind of wolf-creature (unlike that of the modern werewolves) that have been chosen to become one of the fold. Unlike popular belief, the werewolf biting its victim can choose to infuse the lycanthrope gene into the bitten individual's DNA at will. That person is then condemned to a life as a werewolf every month, during the three days of the full moon cycle. It is still being researched if a werewolf is vulnerable to silver or not, but scholars are coming close to an answer.
During the time that he or she is not under the influence of the full moon, a were has a diet consisting of all the four food groups, but has a particular taste for extremely rare meats. However, when the full moon rises, their appetite is that of a carnivore, craving nothing but the meat of a freshly killed animal.
While a werewolf's instincts do influence his or her actions during the full moon, they still have a conscience and free will in their bestial form. The only difference between weres is the willpower of each one; If their will is strong and they fight the urges that the lycanthrope gene causes them to have, they can suppress their instincts and live among other non werewolves without much trouble. However, should their willpower be weak, or if they accept the beast within them without a fight, they will be as monstrous as the legends in the human world say they are.
Appearance wise, werewolves are about two times the body mass of their original selves in every aspect...every part of the anatomy increases equally. The skeletal structure increases slightly, and takes a more animalistic form. The muscles increase in volume by about double the size, granting increased strength, speed, and reflexes of the werewolf.
Once every six months, during the spring and fall of the year, the full moon takes a bluish color to it. How or why this occurrence happens is still unknown, but it triggers something within the weres that increases their instinctual nature of self-preservation. During this one night of the two seasons, this is considered the werewolf's official mating season. Should a were encounter someone of the same sex during this time, they will attack and possibly kill the individual. It's unsure as to why this happens, but it is most likely due to a competitive nature during their sex hunt, seeing them as a threat to the continuation of their bloodline. When traveling during the blue moon, it is recommended that one should travel in small groups, to have a small chance of being safe from a werewolf attack.
The only races capable of being successfully infected by the werewolf "curse" are humans, elves, dwarves, anthros, nekos, and animals. The last three of the listed races; anthros, nekos, and animals, are a special case among the infected. When transforming, they take on a slightly more wolfish form of their current selves, compared to a human, elf, or dwarf, who takes on the usual werewolf form. Because of this special alteration, many uninfected have given them the title of 'demons', despite not being of a demonic descent. Contrary to popular belief in the Lost Nation, Angels and demons do not exist in this world! The only existing beings in this are the humans and beasts of fairy-tales, but some individuals like to mimic these creatures of legend, to pretend they have an affiliation with Death himself.
