Harpies
There are many different types of harpy, and each has a different type of lifestyle and disposition. Mostly a female race, the constant cross breeding between humans and harpies has resulted in some male specimens.
Appearance-wise, harpies are usually fairly beautiful to look at, but some researchers have reported seeing some of a more grotesque variety, being non appealing to both species.
Crow Tengu
A kind of harpy that lives only in mountains near human villages. They are stronger than other harpies and can fly around the sky at high speeds; they also possess a magic that is said to resemble divine power. The crow tengu are said to be the followers of a mysterious "Great Tengu".
Crow tengu seclude themselves atop mountains and dedicate themselves to the pursuit of knowledge. They seldom appear before humans, though they sometimes secretly visit human villages to study and make records of menacing villains. Like other harpies, crow tengu have a mating season; when the time comes, they will search for a harpy mate, or descend to the human settlements for one and kidnap them. They are particular and will only take good men for this purpose, not villains. So a crow tengu's interest can be diverted by shouting insults at her.
Due to their considerable power and self-confidence, crow tengu are extremely proud and hard to please, a chance encounter with one will probably only irritate her. However, due to their seclusion, most crow tengu have few connections to earthly life and no experience conversing with men. A sympathetic, caring man might be able to win a crow tengu's heart - or he may only send her into a panic.
